How to Package a Parcel for Courier Delivery

A practical guide to packaging parcels for courier delivery — materials, protection, sealing and labelling — so your item arrives intact.

Good packaging protects your item and speeds up collection. Even on a direct, same-day run, sensible packing keeps contents safe. Here’s how to do it properly.

1. Choose the right box

Use a sturdy, correctly-sized box — strong enough for the weight, with a little room for cushioning. Reused boxes are fine if they’re still rigid; replace anything crushed or damp.

2. Cushion the contents

Wrap items individually and fill gaps with bubble wrap, foam or paper so nothing moves. Fragile items should sit in the centre, away from the edges. For large or heavy items, extra internal support matters.

3. Seal it well

Use strong parcel tape along every seam — the “H” method (taping both the centre seam and the two edge seams) holds best. Avoid string, which can catch.

4. Label clearly

Write the delivery address clearly and remove or cross out old labels. Mark fragile or this way up where relevant.

5. Special items

  • Documents — use a rigid envelope or wallet; our document courier keeps them secure.
  • Medical/pharma — follow packaging and temperature requirements; see medical courier.
  • Car parts — protect edges and painted surfaces; see car parts courier.

Once it’s packed, get an instant quote and we’ll collect within the hour.
